Easy Sriracha Cheese Sauce

Can you hear that? The blow of the whistle, the cheer of the crowd, the crunch of the helmets?... That’s right, the SuperBowl is here.

Now bring on the food!

America’s favorite past time has finally returned! The SuperBowl means time with family, friends and of course, the lots and lots of food!

Did you know over 11 million pounds of potato chips are eaten on Super Bowl Sunday? And nearly  70 million pounds of avocados are consumed. Holy guacamole, that's a lot of avocado! And, drum roll please, 1.25 billion chicken wings are eaten during the big game.

We're eating massive amounts of unhealthy foods throughout the football season, throw in the holidays coming up and it can be a recipe for disaster, both for our health and our waistlines.

This SuperBowl Sunday, I want to make sure that you’ll have a healthy snacking option to nosh on during the game. Here's a deliciously healthy twist on a Cheese Sauce; a dip with a kick for sure! With it's rich cheesy flavor and slightly spicy taste, your friends will never know it's not junk food!

Sriracha Cheese Sauce

(vegan, grain free, paleo)

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup soaked cashews or macadamia nuts (soa
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1/4 cup arrowroot starch
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 3 Tablespoons Sriracha
  • 1 Tablespoon miso paste (optional, but great flavor)
  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
  • 1/2 t lemon juice
  • 1 Tablespoon onion powder

*If you don't like sriracha you can always add your own seasonings. My favorites are cumin, chili powder and paprika.

Directions

Place cashews and almond milk in a food processor or high powered blender and process till smooth.  Begin adding your other ingredients and blend, blend, blend.  Then be sure to taste!  Add more nutritional yeast to kick up the cheesey taste or more seasonings and garlic to enhance the cheese’s flavor.  If it’s too thick or you’d prefer a runnier sauce, add a bit more almond milk or water.  Once you’ve reached the consistency and taste you desire.

If I'm not dunking my nachos or grain free pretzels in the cheese sauce, I like to pour some on lightly steamed kale, a deliciously healthy addition to any dinner!
